Houseflies: The Unwanted Guests That Can Make You Sick

Houseflies are bugs that can make people and animals sick by spreading diseases. They do this when they land on or make dirty things like food, water, and surfaces. Some of the sicknesses they can spread are cholera, salmonella, typhoid fever, dysentery, anthrax, leprosy, and tularemia. Houseflies also do yucky things like eating poop, and they can be a danger to our health.

Diseases that houseflies can spread:

  1. Cholera: A sickness caused by bacteria that gives you really bad diarrhea, makes you very thirsty, and can be deadly.
  2. Salmonella: Another sickness caused by bacteria. It brings fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea.
  3. Typhoid Fever: This is caused by bacteria too. It gives you a high fever, headache, stomach pain, and a rash.
  4. Dysentery: A group of sicknesses that affect your intestines, causing bloody diarrhea, stomach pain, and fever.
  5. Anthrax: A bacterial infection that can affect your skin, lungs, or digestion system.
  6. Leprosy: A bacterial infection that can affect your skin, nerves, and mucous membranes.
  7. Tularemia: Another bacterial infection that can affect your skin, eyes, lymph nodes, and lungs.

Bad things houseflies do:

  1. They eat poop, trash, and old food with bacteria and parasites.
  2. They land on clean surfaces and food, spreading germs by vomiting or pooping.
  3. They make things stink and ruin food.
  4. They bother us and can be bad for our health.
