PM Modi’s trip to Ayodhya is a very important moment in history because he will officially open the Ram Mandir, a temple devoted to Lord Ram, a highly respected deity in Hinduism. This temple stands where the Babri Masjid once existed, a mosque from the 16th century that was torn down by Hindu groups in 1992. This event led to communal riots and a prolonged legal battle. In 2019, the Supreme Court of India decided in favor of building the temple, bringing an end to the lengthy controversy.
The dedication ceremony of the temple idol will include different rituals and prayers. Additionally, a 51-inch statue of Ram Lalla, the child form of Lord Ram, crafted from black stone, will be revealed. This ceremony will be broadcasted to millions of people in India and beyond. Moreover, a lavish celebration is planned, featuring the lighting of one million earthen lamps in Ayodhya.
